This one amazes me mainly because of the detailing - it looks and feels so real, and yet not... and the composition is just perfect. Exactly my favourite kind of thing.

Thanks, for your kind comments. Well tips for aspiring artists, I would say that it is important to choose a subject or light a subject that is already easy to paint. That is, it should have dramatic lighting. Too many people pick faces or subjects that are already flat before they paint them. Look at your subject/photo and squint, if the image is flat, don't bother painting it, find an image that is lit with a strong, but not too strong shadow. And also, make sure your edges, of your figure are soft, not hard edge. It usually means dragging a brush with no paint along the edge. Also, while you are painting, use a brush for each colour you will use- to avoid muddy colours. Hope this helps.
